The Cross

I was able to share my "Justin Story" accounts with a local church here in Brookings, Oregon several years ago on Easter Sunday. - A few weeks prior to that, I had begun the task of making another 8 foot Cross, after I'd left my previous one in Florida.

Since it was almost Easter, I decided to make a "He is Risen" sign to go on the top to signify the resurrection of Jesus. I also included some very hard to find crucifixion spikes that I soaked in an acid solution in my backyard to make them look rustic and old. (Also praying the bottle wouldn't explode.) I then pulled some very prickly blackberry vines and shaped them into a 'crown of thorns' to be placed at the center. Finally, I  burned the edges of the entire Cross with  specific wood burning tools by hand. The base is in the shape of a pinwheel design also burned with leaf petal images that I wanted to reflect the Bible verse: "I am the Vine, ye are the Branches." John 15:5

When I asked if I could bring my Cross for Easter Sunday, in honor of our Savior, The church gleefully accepted. The ladies of the church added the Lilies at the foot of Cross. They later asked me if they could keep it, so I gifted it to their church.

I carved and burned the "He is Risen Sign" from very hard myrtle wood. I specifically chose it because myrtle wood only grows here in Oregon, Israel, and few parts of northern California.

My Cross still stands in their sanctuary.
